Pierreville (Manche) is in turmoil, its new school group projectpaused for almost two years, will start in a few days.

After a long wait due to the health crisis and to the soaring material coststhe construction site so much hoped for is about to see the light of day. And the good news is that costs have stabilized. This project, already dear to the hearts of residents and elected officials, is therefore relaunched.

A unique school group

For almost four years, the town of Pierreville has been working on creating a school group uniquewith nursery and elementary schools as well as the school restaurant.

Despite the obstacles, the ambition has never wavered: to create a modern learning placeintegrated into its environment and respectful of new ecological standards. It is now done, the work will begin in a fortnight.

The draft mandate is honored.

Thierry Lemonnier, mayor of Pierreville

The future school group will be a sustainability model. Elected officials made a point of choosing biosourced materials for insulation, so as to minimize the ecological impact of the building. A rainwater collection tank will be used to water an educational garden, a space where children will discover the joys of gardening and nature.

And so that every child has access to the game, the school group provides inclusive equipment that will allow everyone to have fun without barriers. The idea is to bring together the different current school volumes to offer optimal infrastructurewithout compromising on quality and access.

The funding of the project was not an easy task.

1,2 million

This is the amount of the overall envelope excluding tax, all inclusive, including in particular the acquisition of land, construction, demarcation, soil study, etc.

The aid breaks down as follows:

  • €320,000 excluding tax from Cotentin competition funds;
  • €509,000 from the DETR (Equipment allocation for rural areas);
  • And a mobilizable envelope of €78,900 from the Department of Manche.

In addition, to support communities in the implementation of exemplary projects in terms of ecological and inclusive transition, the Department is implementing a 20% increase in the amount of financial aid, which allows the municipality to benefit from an additional bonus of €15,780. The remainder payable by the municipality amounts to €400,000. The budget is tight, but it falls within the initial envelope without having to revise the project downwards.

What about operation during the work?

THE works should last 18 monthswith the start of earthworks and roads planned for December-January.

Of course, all this will not be without impact for children. The playground will be temporarily reduced, and adjustments will be made to guarantee the safety of students. But if you ask teachers' opinions, they are willing to make these temporary sacrifices. “If that’s the price we have to pay for a better facility tomorrow, then we’re ready.” »

Pierreville already shares an RPI (Intercommunal Educational Group) with Saint-Germain-le-Gaillard and Le Rozel.

Despite a class closure, the forecasts are reassuring: “Next year, 15 additional children will join the school benches. » Families remain confident, and the teaching team remains hopeful of reopening a class if the dynamic continues. “This project is a promise of the future for our children. And that was important to all of us,” summarizes the mayor.

In 18 months, Pierreville will be able to proudly inaugurate its new school group, a symbol of the desire to do what is necessary to maintain a quality education in the heart of our villages.
