Young advisors begin their mandates

After a election period during the month of October 2024the results are in… These are 110 young people, who were elected to represent the 53 public colleges of .

Among the new ones, Noah Cadarioin 5e, begins his first term of departmental councilor of the canton of Quissac. His experience as a delegate and eco delegate at the Lédignan college is undoubtedly an advantage. “It helps, conceives Éloria Germani-Bombeauformerly elected to the canton of Nîmes III, it allows us to have listening reflexes, to speak with those around us.

The young girl indicates that the departmental advisor has a broader role than transmitting the grievances of her class: “We represent all the college students in Gard and we are really in the realization of projects.” The outgoing councilor cites as an example a flagship initiative of her mandate: with other members of her commission “sustainable development”she created a website listing all the actions taken in favor of ecology in the colleges of Gard.

Her eyes sparkle when she remembers her mandate: “A pleasant and rewarding job. It allowed me to discover the department.”

Well-being and academic success at the heart of concerns

The discovery of the riches of Gard is also one of the subjects that Noé cares about. This 5th grade studente noted : “We know the big monuments, but others are not very represented.”

Before citing other themes on which he would like to work, such as improving accessibility school transport for people with reduced mobility or even more fun learning methods.

These would partly respond to what he considers to be the main concern of young people of his age, namely academic success. Éloria, now a high school student, is of the same opinion: “As a middle school student, I noticed that many students felt pressure.”

The question of well-being at collegeis a subject of which “we talk about it, but there are few adjustments”. In 2025this theme could take precedence over others, like ecology. The latter, however, remains frequently discussed within the departmental youth council (CDJ).

“We are the generation that grew up hearing about global warming”. Faced with what can cause a “feeling of helplessness”Éloria wants to be pragmatic: “If we act responsibly in college, we reproduce it at home and it has a snowball effect.”

The two students are well aware of this ecological heritage: “It is we who must build the world of tomorrow.” The concerns are given, the new elected officials just have to roll up their sleeves.

Representing around 30,000 middle school students, a two-year commitment

Those elected to CDJ serve a two-year term, during which they have approximately one meeting per month. All students in grade 5 can attend.e et 4e, Ulis and Segpa includedenrolled in a public college in Gard.

All college students can vote. 24 cantons are represented. Before the vote, between mid-September and mid-October, agents from the departmental council spoke to students to make them aware of this civic commitment.

Marianne Viremouneix, CDJ coordinatorconfides that even if today the share between the 5e and the 4e to the assembly is equal, “it is more difficult to mobilize the 4e”. THE newly elected officials will be inducted on December 13, 2024, “an always memorable day for young people”.
