: three burglars convicted after raiding several departments

The Nîmes criminal court has delivered its verdict concerning three men involved in a series of burglaries which affected several municipalities in , Hérault and Aveyron between 2019 and 2020.

The defendants, who appeared free, were sentenced to suspended sentences ranging from 10 to 18 months in prison.

The three men orchestrated burglaries in numerous locations, attacking various types of property. Investigators recorded thefts in the municipalities of “Uchaud, Goudargues, Calvisson, , Rodilhan, Parignargues, Vergèze, , Montclus and Villefranche-de-Panat”. The stolen items ranged from vehicles to professional equipment. Among the notable events is the theft of a fire truck in Vergèze on May 4, 2019, then used to steal a mechanical excavator and a trailer in Saint-Hilaire-de-Brethmas.

The investigation progressed thanks to a report made by a witness, who led the police to suspicious territory. On site, law enforcement discovered stolen items, including a wrecked Jeep Cherokee, a generator, military camouflage nets and various equipment. These discoveries confirmed the involvement of the three men. On June 10, 2020, a drone flight over the area made it possible to identify more clues and locate the suspects.

On July 17, 2020, the three burglars were arrested at their respective homes. The stolen items and their involvement in at least six incidents were confirmed by the investigation.

Verdict

After a long investigation, the Nîmes criminal court found the defendants guilty. The judges handed down suspended prison sentences of 18 months, 12 months and 10 months, sanctioning their responsibility in this series of burglaries which had marked the region.
