They are wound up like clocks more than ever. Because, according to them, time has not provided solutions. Farmers plan to bring out the tractors this week of November 17, 2024 for new blocking movementsparticularly in and from Yvelines. Last January, the rural world took over several major roads in Île-de-France and the department, such as the Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines toll, the A13, the national 12 and many other roads. These same sites could concentrate the new demonstrations.
But why did farmers decide to leave their farms and fields to find asphalt?
“It’s simple. The government's commitments have not been kept, or at least only very, very partially. We saw the Prime Minister at the time, Gabriel Attal, communicate by organizing a meeting on straw bales. And then nothing or almost nothing has changed. And we are still in the dungeon to say nothing else”
The first tractors from 4 p.m., Sunday
In a press release, the Yvelines prefecture informed of the presence of a demonstration point. “In Yvelines, from 4 p.m. this Sunday, November 17, around a hundred tractors will converge on an assembly point located on the RN118, at the Vélizy-Villacoublay air base. Traffic on the RN118 towards Paris will be severely disrupted from Sunday 5 p.m. and until Monday November 18 at 2 p.m. »
It also provides information on what to do: → Avoid traveling on the RN118 towards the capital as much as possible from Sunday afternoon until Monday afternoon. Diversion routes will be put in place to allow traffic to flow.
→ Stay informed of the situation by following the information disseminated by the prefecture (on its website and its X account @prefet78) and by Sytadin (on its website and its X account @sytadin).
→ comply with the instructions given by law enforcement on the ground.
“Single control is bogus”
He has in mind the problem of imports with the opening of the European market to South American agricultural products. “The trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosour provides, among other things, to eliminate 90% of customs duties on products from both sides of the Atlantic […] Wanting to sign agreements without taking into account our agriculture appears like a provocationestimate together the Young Farmers and the Regional Federation of Farmers' Unions (Frsea) in Île-de-France. Let’s not import agriculture that we don’t want.”
In the crosshairs, there is also the principle of single control. “It’s bogus. We are told one check per year. But in reality, there are several controllers who can intervene on different aspects. So it's not going to change much, nor alleviate the pression that we have,” assures a cereal grower.
Financial reality
At the same time, it needs to find funds. Because the rainy year had consequences catastrophic on yields. Without forgetting periods of flooding. “I lost 120,000 euros. And I'm still asked to pay my charges. For that, they are not late. I spend my time calling banks. And then we are accused of being the cause of the floods with the disappearance of the hedges. But I looked at maps from the time of Louis XIV. In my fields, south of Yvelines, no hedge appears… We cannot be gratuitously accused of having destroyed them. We will not return to the kennel without results,” assures our interlocutor.
First meeting in Vélizy-Villacoublay
These demands in hand, the rural world promises not to give up the ground. “Remember last winter…” warns the Frsea press release.
In this same press release, for this national mobilization planned for November 17 to 20, several movements inform of their intention to send a message to the president of the Republicfrom Sunday, from air base 107 in Vélizy-Villacoublay. A site that is not chosen at random. This is where the presidential plane takes off from.
