Enedis launched a large-scale construction site in the Ravalet castle area in Tourlaville (delegated municipality of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, Manche).

350,000 euros is the cost of this project

” THE works began the last week of August 2024. The end is planned for the first quarter of 2025,” explains the communications manager for Enedis in .

This is the removal of 3.5 kilometers of a medium voltage 20,000 volt HTA overhead electric line which “serves 2,892 customers”. As a replacement, “we are reconstructing more than 800 meters of underground network to replace this line. In fact, we are connecting two lines,” explains the Enedis representative.

To do this, a trench is dug along the rue du château des Ravalet. The new buried line will also pass at the level of the visitors' car park but it will be done by means of “directed drilling”.

36 posts removed from the landscape

“This removes from the landscape 36 poles on which there were sometimes transformer stations at height,” also explains the communications manager. These pole-mounted transformers will be replaced by “two ground-mounted transformer stations and a 3D remote-controlled cabinet. It’s a kind of switch that allows you to troubleshoot.”

“This file has been in the pipeline for a while,” but the time limit were longer than normal because “it's a area classified as a historic monument with the castle and a sensitive natural area”.

Burying this line should “avoid climatic hazards” in this very wooded sector. The Channel was particularly hit on November 2, 2023 by storm Ciarán.

But this has a cost that is not insignificant: €350,000 in the case of this project that Enedis has entrusted to the Sarlec company.
