The Ministry of Equipment and Water, in cooperation with the Moroccan company responsible for building the Khank Kru dam, resumed construction work more quickly, relying on advanced human and logistical resources, after the cessation of work due to exceptional flooding in the Figuig region last September, when the peak of the floods reached 3,800 cubic meters per second, destroying the temporary protection barrier and filling the valley floor with dust and stones, which required great efforts to restart the work.

In accordance with the royal directives, the central services of the ministry are working to complete the construction of the dam, as the head of the “Khank Kru” dam project explained in a statement to the “Alma Dialna” platform that the excavation works and insulation injection are currently in progress. in progress on the right bank, in addition to the installation of layers of “BCR”. After cleaning the valley floor of flood sediments and filling it with earth and stones.

Excavation operations have been completed and the placement of compacted concrete and contact concrete at the bottom of the valley has begun to ensure the continuity of construction work.

The works manager confirmed that the “Khank Kru” dam, considered the largest under construction in Morocco in terms of storage capacity, has reached a progress rate of around 45% in the community of Beni Tadjit.

It is expected that the pace of completion of this vital dam will be accelerated, with the aim of ensuring the supply of drinking water, providing irrigation water to agricultural lands, in addition to generating energy hydroelectric, protect against flooding and improve groundwater recharge. The reservoir volume of the dam is approximately 1.69 billion cubic meters.
