In its new national tobacco control program, the government wishes to build the first tobacco-free generation by 2032, in particular by preventing the entry into smoking among young people.
First generation without tobacco
One of the key measures of this program is the generalization of tobacco-free spaces on all beaches, public parks, forests and in the exterior areas of certain public places for collective use such as schools and health establishments. These places, which welcome a predominantly family audience, are thus protected from tobacco pollution both in terms of health and the environment (butts, fires).
“Set a good example”
In Loire-Atlantique, there are 228 in 15 municipalities. In partnership with the Loire-Atlantique Cancer League, the City of Saint-Philbert-de-Grand-Lieu is setting up its first tobacco-free spaces in front of the three schools in the town. Banning smoking in outdoor spaces enjoys massive public support
underlines Stéphan Beaugé, the mayor who adds: It is by setting a good example that we can hope to see our children adopt the right behaviors for their future.”
