It has become a sea serpent. For several years, a project to build several dozen social housing units in Auch, in the Gerswas in an impasse. Is it over? In any case, a new step has just been reached…
As early as 2019, a collective opposed these new housing in a meadow along rue d'Angerville, to the northwest of the Gers prefecture.
44 housing units on a 15,350 m meadow2
The Coteaux de Juillan association denounced in particular the size of this project:
44 housing units on a 1.5 hectare plot. “That’s an average of 30 housing units per hectare. This figure is well above all the rest of the Angerville/Dugommier district,” estimated the angry residents, noting the “heavy” parking and traffic difficulties already existing in this residential area.
But the Gers HLM office insisted and building permit was finally delivered two years later, in the spring of 2021. We then saw more clearly what was going to be born on the meadow at a place called Plaisance: a plot of land of 15,350 m2 with 3,441 m2 of buildings, 44 one-story houses, 52 parking spaces.
A consultation without follow-up in 2021
And a consultation was launched for the work. But it was declared without action… The association, for its part, tried to derail the project in court.
Except that the administrative court of Pau dismissed the local residents' case in June 2023, removing this obstacle.
A new call for tenders
And a few days ago, the OPH relaunched a call for tenders for the construction of these 44 social rental housing units. “This new procedure is initiated following the decision to give up awarding the public contract for legal reasons not resulting from the unsuccessfulness of the procedure”, specifies the market published on October 31, 2024. Companies that want to get started in this adventure have until the beginning of December to apply. If the procedure were to be completed, we can therefore imagine that the new houses will be delivered in 2026 or 2027.
