A church burgled in the Lot: material damage estimated at 15,000 euros

The church of Bagnac-sur-Célé (Lot) was burglarized during the night of October 12 to 13. An expert from the department has since come to take an inventory of the objects and furniture in the building and estimated the material damage from this theft at 15,000 euros.

A hard blow for the parishioners of Bagnac-sur-Célé (Lot). On the night of October 12 to 13, the town's church was broken into and several religious objects were stolen. According to The Dispatch of this Tuesday, November 12, the material damage was recently estimated at €15,000.

A complete inventory

The estimate was made by a departmental heritage inventory manager. He went to the church to take a “floor to ceiling” inventory of the building, including the objects of worship and the furniture. On this occasion, the three church bells were cleaned and dated, the oldest dating back to the beginning of the 19th century.

A complaint was filed with the Figeac gendarmerie after the burglary. The stolen religious objects have since been replaced. The bishop of Cahors even went to Bagnac-sur-Célé for a religious ceremony of forgiveness and consecration of these new objects.
