In Vendée, Industry Week aims to encourage vocations

“With industry, create your future” is the slogan of the thirteenth Industry Week organized from November 18 to 24. Twenty-four companies are opening their doors in order to strengthen the attractiveness of the sector and change the public's view of the industry and its opportunities. But also by emphasizing initiatives to strengthen diversity in professions.

“You can't improvise as a welder, or a fitter mechanic or even an industrial painter. There are increasingly more qualified needs in industrial professions. The lack of skills is a source of concern for manufacturers,” immediately poses Benjamin Traché, general secretary of the Union of Metallurgical Industries of Vendée (UIMV). An annual highlight since 2011, initiated by the State, Industry Week, from November 18 to 24, will allow the public to discover the industrial dynamism of Vendée. Twenty-four companies will open their doors to schoolchildren, teaching professionals, job seekers and people undergoing professional retraining.

Despite an economic slowdown, structural recruitment needs will be significant by 2030-2035 according to the latest studies from the Regional Observatory of Industrial Skills (Orci) of " rel="tag">Pays de la Loire. “To achieve the 2030 objectives, we must target young people who are currently in college and will enter the professional world within five to ten years. And communicate to discover the range of professions in a sector of the future. »

More than the other Loire departments, the Vendée industry faces several challenges such as an unbalanced age pyramid, with nearly 30% of metallurgy employees who will reach the end of their careers in the next fifteen years.

Promote diversity of professions to prepare for the future

The promotion of professions therefore appears to be a crucial issue in preparing for the future. “Schools, training centers and businesses must cooperate”, indicates the general secretary of the UIMV. During a week, different visit slots will be offered in various companies, from industrial maintenance to the machining of precision parts through mechanics.

And for this thirteenth edition, the UIMV wishes to promote diversity of professions by showing “to young girls and women that they have their place in the industry”. Benjamin Traché completes: “We are around 21% women in the metallurgy professions in Vendée. 22% at the national level. The ambition is to reach 32% in ten years. The stakes are high with a planned recruitment of 45,000 women per year. Here too, we must show that working conditions have clearly improved and improve the image of the production side. » In this context, companies must attract (young generations), train (learning) and retain (HR policy and work environment).

Please note that this 2024 edition will also be an opportunity to try your hand at professions and discover the training offered by the Fab'Academy-Pôle Formation UIMM or ICAM, partners of the event.
