Cameras discovered in the toilets of Sciences-po

A white, square box, the size of a small hand, magnetized to the mirror or the periodic protection dispenser. On two occasions, students discovered the spy device oriented towards the bowl of the unisex toilets in the Sciences-po library (7th arrondissement).

The first time, in mid-September, the student, intrigued by the device, discovered that it was a camera, went to report it to the management of the school on rue Saint-Guillaume. Time for the voyeur(s) to remove the box from the mirror, which could not have been passed on to the police. The school had filed a complaint with the 7th arrondissement police station. She apparently didn't bother to inform the students. While regular checks had been put in place.

This Friday, November 8, it was this time on the periodic protection distributor that a student flushed out the camera. She immediately withdrew it and it was handed over to the police during the additional complaint filed by Sciences-po.

This would be a connected camera which allows you to view images live from a smartphone. In an email addressed to students, the school called for “increased vigilance”.

“If you find photo or video capture devices, we recommend that you photograph them, then seize them and bring them to the inspectors’ office,” invites Sciences-po management in its information email to students.

Information that is “too late”, according to the establishment’s first student union, the Student Union. “We were informed of the discovery of a first camera by a Sciences-po employee union. We were surprised by the lack of transparency from management on such a serious subject. It is irresponsible not to immediately inform students who may all be affected. We were the first to inform the student community,” laments Inès Fontenelle, a Sciences-po student elected to the Student Union.

Contacted this Monday, the management of Sciences-po assured that it had taken “immediately all the necessary measures to respond to this unacceptable act”.

“Research has already been launched in all Sciences-po premises and will henceforth be systematized,” adds the management, which has also made the school's health center available for those who would feel the need.
