From Saugues, for the Ultra participants, to Puy-en-Velay, for the Breuil spectators gathered to applaud the Motel group, the Trail du Saint-Jacques launched hostilities on Friday June 14. Back in pictures, follow-up of the races, program until Sunday… let’s take stock!
Let’s go for the new edition of the Trail du Saint-Jacques which, since 2012, invites runners to compete in the heart of Haute-Loire up to Puy-en-Velay. The event took on a new dimension with its entry into the UTMB World Series circuit in 2022. And the organizers intend to show it this year.
A host of entertainment will punctuate the day for the public who will also see hundreds of competitors compete on the different courses.

Back to the evening of Friday and the day of Saturday.

Guillaume Tiphène completes the event in 7 hours and almost 14 minutes. This is the first time he has won over such a long distance, according to the stats of the UTMB world series. Yoann Stuck and Morgan Pouliquen followed him.

As for the Altiligériens, the first location of the stage is, as for the Ultra, in Dunières. Valentin Chapuis reached Le Puy in 8 hours and 35 minutes.
For the women, the first is licensed in Roanne: it is Anais Dachet, one minute after the Duniérois.

The first female Ultra raises her arms!
Maëlle Deruaz finished the main race in 17 hours and 25 minutes.
She is 27th overall.
Arrival of the Chibottes
The race was completed in just over an hour by the fastest. A German wins the trail.
Esteban Botelho, the first Altiligerian, arrives at the foot of the podium.
On the women’s side, three French women came first.
The first local, Marie Couston, licensed at Velay Athlétisme, is 6th among the women.

The trail runners taking part in the shortest distance of the Saint-Jacques are in the starting blocks in Solignac-sur-Loire, a few seconds before the start.
Ultra: three locals in the top 10
Behind Mathias Carrot (in picture)from Dunières, who finished in 15 hours and 19 minutes, two Polignacois stood out: Jérémie Assezat (15 hours 45 minutes) and Julien Trescarte (5 minutes behind).

Ultra competitors are still tackling the Saint-Jean-Lachalm hill at the start of the afternoon, while the fastest have already put down their poles at Le Puy.

Around Bouchet Lake
The competition continues, as here, shortly before 1 p.m., near Cayres and Bouchet-Saint-Nicolas.

The competitors, notably from the Grand Trail, continue their journey in Haute-Loire. At the end of the morning, Saturday, there were many of them towards the chapel of Rochegude and the surrounding area.

The fastest of the Ultra Trail, leaving Saugues during the night, were towards Cayres, Saturday before 10 a.m.

Saturday, in Monistrol-d’Allier, start of the Grand Trail
Let’s go for the Grand Trail! This Saturday morning, a thousand trail runners left Monistrol-d’Allier towards Le Puy-en-Velay.
Friday evening, between Le Puy and Saugues
Hundreds of trail runners (998 starters are recorded) set off on the Ultra, the premier race of 130 km with 5,500 meters of positive altitude difference, in Saugues from 10 p.m. (it is possible to follow them live on the website of the UTMB).
In Puy, the Motel group delighted the public on the Place du Breuil, in Puy-en-Velay.
