Weather report. It's been twelve days since this Western department last saw the sun

In the department, such a long absence constitutes “a historic record” according to Laurent Belsœur, meteorologist based within the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis).

Records fell in several cities

Questioned this week, another meteorologist, Sébastien Decaux, described to us a situation “extremely rare”. “Even in December 2010, marked by phenomena of the same type, we did not find such a sequence”he explained. This long period without sunlight is explained, according to him, by “a gigantic anticyclone” which covers Europe and “places ambient humidity on the ground”.
