In La Presse de la Manche of Tuesday October 29, 2024 and on actu.fr the day before, we announced that the northern access ramp to the town of Valognes (Some) by the RN13 was going to be closed until… January 17, 2025 in order to create a roundabout on the RD974 au lieu-dit « Fosse Prémesnil ».

Securing Before Expansion

This road being a departmental one, the project management falls to the Department of Manche.

Requested, the office of the president clarified on Tuesday October 29 the reasons for carrying out this road development:

The Cotentin Urban Community wanted to secure access to the future Armanville Artisanal Zone in Valognes (Editor's note, more precisely the extension of this activity zone). The study and implementation were delegated to the Department of Manche.

“3,500 vehicles pass through this location per day. It was decided to build a roundabout at the intersection of the RN13 ramp, the RD974, the Bretonnerie route and the artisanal zone route,” explains the Department which figures the financing : “This arrangement, in the amount of €580,000, is financed by the CAC (€535,000) and the Department of Manche (€45,000). »

A 4-branched roundabout

Technically, “the development consists of the creation of a roundabout with 4 branches of 20 meters in radius, large enough to allow the passage of heavy goods vehicles and the creation of a parking area ».

The work is entrusted to theconstruction company Colas one of whose agencies is based a few kilometers away, in Brix.

Development of the area over 15 ha

Contacted by telephone, Jacques Coquelin, maire of Valognes and vice-presidentof the Cotentin Urban Community, explains that the Armanville activity zone created in 1980, will be developed on 15 hectares of this northern sector, behind the Lebaudy agricultural equipment dealership, the La Poste sorting center and the stonemason William Aubert.

The sports shooting centervalognais is also in this sector of the activity zone, not far from the recycling center.

Future road center?

Jacques Coquelin mentions in particular a probable development of heavy goods vehicle traffic.

In fact, in September 2023 THE elected officials from Cotentin had mentioned a road center project in Valognes in order to support the strong development of the trade between and Ireland via the port of Cherbourg which has become “the first Irish port in France”.

The Armanville activity zone could become an advanced post of the port of Cherbourg with a space that would be developed on 2 hectaresto accommodate heavy goods vehicles in transit to Ireland or England.

About 2 kilometers to the south, the project to complete the current half-interchange between the RN13 and the RD902 (the departmental road which connects Valognes to Bricquebec-en-Cotentin).

3,500 vehicles per day already pass through this location, even before the extension of the activity zone.
