The Kage academy, dedicated to the training of goalkeepers, has innovated by offering an unconventional approach to its students. Recently, its young goalkeepers left the football cages to take up fencing. This initiation, organized in the CE Boulazac room and supervised by fencing master William Vert, was designed to provide them with new skills, with the idea that mixing disciplines can play a key role in progression, while by strengthening their cohesion.
Julien Lacour, coach of the Kage academy, sees this approach as an original way to work on the reflexes, concentration and mentality of his students. “As a goalkeeper, you often have to anticipate and react in a fraction of a second. These are qualities that are also found in fencing. By confronting our goalkeepers with this discipline, we teach them to concentrate differently, to channel their energy and to develop a sense of timing which they can then use on the pitch. »
“I was pleasantly surprised to see how quickly the young goalkeepers understood the importance of movement, precision and reactivity in fencing,” admits William Vert. They really played the game and learned the basics well. » With this initiative, the Kage Académie shows that it is ready to think outside the box to offer its students innovative tools in their learning, drawing inspiration from other sports while having fun.
