The Saint-Simon fair de Montmirail is always a moment appreciated by the public. This 2024 edition, which took place from October 26 to 28, was marked by contrasting results. So, the funfair attracted a lot of people, to the greatest satisfaction ofÉtienne Dhuicqthe mayor of the city. “It was a success, there were people, rides. It was a very nice funfair.” The Saturday balloon release at 3 p.m. and the evening fireworks at 9 p.m. were attended by large audiences.
No cattle, few agricultural machines and hawkers
The observation is, however, different for the Charolais exhibition which ultimately did not take place for reasons of health and administrative constraints, but also for that of agricultural equipment which was reduced to the presentation of motor tillers. “We were disappointed not to have the cattle even though there was no ban on participating in the fair. The conditions of participation were too complicated for an agricultural world which had morale at zero with all the rain in recent months,” specifies the mayor.
On the side of camelotsthey were hardly present. “My feeling is that people buy less at fairs and more on the Internet now than in the past,” confides the mayor. He cites the example of shoes: “I used to buy mine at this fair.”
Nevertheless, in the opinion of some people who visited the fair this year, “with my friends, we had a lot of fun and we will come back next year”, confide these inhabitants of Rebais, originally from Marnais. .
