Notice to amateurs. In the town of Bazas, in Gironde, orienteering enthusiasts will be able to come together.
Because the US Bazas, which brings together several disciplines (rugby, basketball, handball, etc.) has a new section: orienteering.
At its head, we find Jonathan Mourgues. “This is the 20th section of the USB which dates from 1904,” underlines Jean-Claude Puyo, president of USB Omnisports.
Orienteering has 340 members in Gironde
This new section, dedicated to orienteering, should interest people. “In France, there are 10,000 orienteering licensees and 50,000 people who practice occasionallysays Jonathan Mourgues. In Gironde, 340 people are licensed with 4 clubs; not counting Bazas. »
With this new section, the Gironde territory will be completely covered.
“We recovered the equipment from the former association, Sud-Gironde Orientation, which was given to USB. She also left us the sum of €2,777; which will allow us to launch the section. »
Jonathan Mourgues was elected president, Sylvie Dubiez became treasurer, Benoît Casaban secretary. William Girard and Rémy Zeidan, for their part, join the office.
One workout per week
“Training takes place Sunday morningsfrom 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The place is different each time, explains Jonathan Mourgues. In the near future, we will apply for the Valides Handicapés label and participate in various charitable actions by offering orienteering races. »
An orienteering school in the works
Among the more distant projects, it is envisaged to create an orienteering school within the section andorganize an event in Bazas mixing cultural and sporting challenges with local associations
