: the Christmas Market on the Champs-Elysées soon to return?

After its disappearance in 2017, could the Christmas market on Avenue des Champs-Elysées return soon? Catherine Lécuyer, councilor of the 8th arrondissement, hopes to reinstall it soon.

In 2017, the Champs-Elysées Christmas Market disappeared, despite the appeals of Marcel Campion, who created it in 2008. The town hall then estimated that the events and products sold were “poor quality” and had put an end to its installation on the most beautiful avenue in the world, adorned with beautiful illuminations during the winter season. Since then, the market has never reappeared and although another is held in the Tuileries, not so far away, the councilor of the 8th arrondissement of Paris, Catherine Lécuyer, would like to see him come back.

In a press release, the latter indicates that it wants “re-establish a quality Christmas market on the lower avenue of the Champs-Élysées“and intends to defend this project on Tuesday, November 5, during the Borough Council meeting. She believes that the situation has evolved since 2017 and that the tourist attendance for the end-of-year celebrations on the avenue would be “a window exceptional in order to promote the quality of the products and know-how of Parisian and Ile-de- artisans”.

She adds that the Champs-Élysées Committee itself had, in one of its proposals, recommended “recreate a quality Christmas market“, and hopes to be supported to bring back this market, long considered a Christmas event not to be missed in the capital.
