For the month of November, the Haute-Garonne Cancer League is launching the “Gentlemen's Challenge”, an awareness campaign on male cancers, a reality that is too often ignored. Of the 433,000 new cases of cancer detected in 2023, 57% concerned men. Prostate cancer is the most common among the latter, but cancers of the testicles, colon-rectum and those linked to human papillomaviruses are also major public health issues. In , new cases of prostate cancer are close to those of breast cancer in women, with around 60,000 diagnoses per year (Santé Publique France). Faced with this observation, the League Against Cancer is committed to making men's health a priority, taking advantage of the month of November to launch the Gentlemen's Challenge. This campaign aims to raise awareness about male cancers, encourage prevention and encourage people to adopt health-promoting practices. Men are invited to take on simple challenges, such as regular physical activity, a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of cancer. In addition to promoting healthy lifestyle habits, the Gentlemen's Challenge highlights essential health events throughout men's lives: vaccination against human papillomavirus for young boys aged 11 to 19, self-examination of the testicles from puberty and colorectal cancer screening from the age of 50, 100% covered by Health Insurance. Detected at an early stage, colorectal cancer can be cured in 9 out of 10 cases (INCa). Overall, regular monitoring is recommended throughout life to detect possible warning signs and to regularly consult your doctor.
