An investigation opened following the discovery of a suffering horse and donkey in Vendée

On October 22, 2024, a gelding (castrated horse, Editor’s note) and a donkey were found along a road Chaillé-sous-les-Ormeauxdelegated municipality of Rives de l'Yon, by local residents. To avoid the accident, they were sheltered in a field in the town.

Worrying condition of the donkey

The donkey was in worrying condition, presenting a serious infected wound on her back, accompanied by maggots and green flies. His feet were also in an advanced state of disrepair. For his part, the gelding only had a few broken feet, requiring care from a groom.

Mayor Christophe Hermouet took charge of the situation after receiving a call from an animal protection association in the region. A veterinarian was urgently contacted to administer first aid to the donkey.

The DDPP is investigating

After an hour and a half of treatment, she was able to return to her temporary field.

At the same time, the town hall took steps to find the owner. An investigation carried out by the Departmental Directorate for Population Protection (DDPP) is underway.
