A Franco-Turkish association, housing a mosque, was targeted by an Islamophobic act. A dead boar was left overnight from Friday to Saturday in front of the premises of this association located in Saint-Usage, in Côte-d'Or. An “intolerable anti-Muslim” act and amounting to “barbaric violence”, according to Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau.
The body of the animal was left around 11 p.m. “in front of the Franco-Turkish association where there is a mosque”, in Saint-Usage, a village of 1,300 inhabitants near Dijon, AFP learned from the prefecture of Côte-d’Or.
The animal, which had an injury to its snout, was discovered by a representative of the association. The gendarmerie was immediately called to the scene and a judicial investigation was opened, it was specified.
Minister Retailleau raised the affair on Saturday morning on “I want to express to the believers in these communities my support and that of the State. Attacking places of worship is extremely cowardly and amounts to barbaric violence,” he added.
According to the gendarmes, the association has indicated its desire to file a complaint. An investigation into discriminatory public insult is underway, confirmed the public prosecutor of Dijon, Olivier Caracotch, to France Bleu Bourgogne. A march could be organized this Sunday to denounce the facts, the Interior Ministry told Le Parisien.
Public insult of a discriminatory nature committed against a private person is punishable by one year of imprisonment and a fine of €45,000. In December 2023, in Essonne, a wild boar corpse had already been hung on the gates of a mosque in Vigneux-sur-Seine. In March 2024, a boar's head was placed near a mosque in Contrexéville, in the Vosges.
