-de- classified among the 200 world geological heritage sites

The -de- site has been included in the prestigious list of 200 geological heritage sites of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). This global recognition was made official during the 37th International Geological Congress which was held in Busan, Republic of Korea, on August 27. The application carried out by the hydrogeology laboratory of the University of was examined by 700 international experts studied the site. The site was ranked 185th in the world.

Fontaine-de-Vaucluse thus joins a restricted circle of geological sites recognized for their exceptional value in understanding geological processes and the history of the Earth. A source of pride for Laurent Rhodet, director of the Sorgues Basin Mixed Union: “It’s even a source of pride for all Vauclusians, it’s recognition of a system that is exceptional.” This exceptional site for science and heritage, Fontaine de Vaucluse, one of the most important karst springs in Europe, has fascinated geologists, scientists and visitors for centuries. This emblematic site illustrates unique geological phenomena and constitutes a true nature laboratoryl.

Its inclusion in this prestigious list is a tribute to its historical importance to the science of geology and a recognition of its preservation as a world heritage site.
