a “major” operation against insecurity at the Montmartre gate, 4,500 kg of goods seized

This action plan was carried out this Saturday, October 19 under the eye of Laurent Nuñez, the police prefect. A neighborhood security system was then set up.

Nearly 500 people “evicted from the sector”, 30 checked, 28 fined, two fixed criminal fines issued and 4,500 kg of goods seized. This is the figures provided by the Paris police headquarters, this Saturday, October 19, after an operation to combat insecurity in the Porte de Montmartre area.

Under the eye of Laurent Nuñez, this operation was carried out by local personnel from the police headquarters, supported by two crews from the dog company, a team from the territorial equestrian unit of Seine-Saint-Denis, two horsemen from the Republican Guard and three sections of CRS.

Subsequently, the authorities claim to have set up a system to secure the neighborhood. This includes “a massive police presence”, which should make it possible to “avoid further relocation on public roads”. Ultimately, the objective is to “eradicate this phenomenon”.

The prefect still “very vigilant”

“The prefect of police remains very vigilant to the evolution of the situation and the action of the police will continue as long as necessary,” warns the prefecture in its press release.

If Laurent Nuñez opted to launch this action plan described as “major”, it is because he notes that, in this sector, “many individuals regularly occupy the public highway to carry out an illegal sales activity smuggling goods and foodstuffs.

This generates, insists the prefecture, “significant nuisance” and “significantly degrades the living environment of local residents living in the district” of the Porte de Montmartre.
