“Protect consumers by participating in the defense of their purchasing power. » This is the wish of the prefect of Val-d’Oise, Philippe Court, at the origin of the controls which have multiplied in the major food brands in the department since the start of the year. These aim to ensure the origin of the productsbut also to ensure the good display of product prices on the shelves. An obligation that hypermarkets and supermarkets do not always respect.

While two weeks ago, the E.Leclerc store in Saint-Prix was fined 12,000 euros for lack of labeling on 24 productsit’s the turn of Auchan supermarket d’Arnouville, at 59, avenue Charles-Vaillant, to be pinned, Tuesday October 15, 2024.

“Prize cart” operation

Following a “cart – price” operation, consisting of choosing common items and checking, at checkout, that the prices displayed and those invoiced to the consumer are indeed the same, the inspectors of the Val-d’Oise Departmental Directorate for Population Protection (Ddpp 95) noted 10 references failing to display the price.

The Val-d’Oise prefecture thus indicates that a administrative report was drawn up for the purposes of issuing an administrative fine.

Even when the difference between the price displayed and the price paid is only 50 cents or 1 euro, that still means something to customers. There is an issue of protection, but also a desire to restore consumer confidence, so that consumers do not feel like they are being ripped off.

Two trolley price checks are organized every week in large and medium-sized food stores, but also in DIY stores. And like what is done during restaurant closures, if a significant number of offenses are noted against the brand, “our services will continue to publish the name and address. It’s a question of transparency,” insists the prefect of Val-d’Oise.
