Belgian municipalities plunged into darkness this Saturday

Lhe 17th edition of the Night of Darkness, organized by the Association for the Protection of the Sky and the Nocturnal Environment (Ascen), takes place this Saturday in nearly 40 municipalities in Wallonia and Brussels. The initiative aims to “raise awareness among the general public and political decision-makers” about the fight against light pollution.

For this edition of the Night of Darkness, 39 municipalities, including Auderghem, Saint-Hubert, Waimes, Fernelmont, Braine-l’Alleud and Charleroi are organizing activities.

At the edge of Lake Louvain-la-Neuve, for example, in addition to turning off the lighting, a public observation session of the night sky will be offered from 7:30 p.m. At the highest point in the country, at the Botrange signal, the Maison du parc will offer astronomical observations, a sunset stroll or even shows and stories, all from 5 p.m. In Namur, it is the Citadel that will be offered to visitors, who will be guided to discover it at night, as well as the wildlife it shelters.

All information relating to the event is available on the association’s website: https://www.ascen.be/no/
