The Paul-Aimé-Paiement library closed for a long time

The City of Quebec announced on Wednesday that the library in the Charlesbourg sector will be closed as of next Tuesday, October 15, until spring 2025.

In a press release, the City explains that this prolonged closure of the Paul-Aimé-Paiement library — which is already the target of renovation work — “is necessary due to more extensive work than envisaged. This will ensure the safety of library users and staff.”

She recalls that the work is necessary to maintain the integrity and durability of the building, while preserving the historic character of the section of the former Marist Brothers college.

The building was first updated in 2006, to add a contemporary glass and stone building, with a sloping green roof. In addition to the reconstruction of the foundation walls, the 9.2 mill work includes the restoration of the brick walls and the roof, the replacement and restoration of windows and the redevelopment of the basement.

In order to minimize the impact of the closure on users, a temporary collection point, intended for document returns and reservations, will be set up from November 11 at the Charlesbourg district office, located at 160, 76e Rue (from Monday to Friday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

Users are invited to visit nearby libraries during this period, namely the Saint-Albert, Étienne-Parent, Gabrielle-Roy and Bon-Pasteur libraries.
