Water uses in Maine-et-: why the latest restrictions have been lifted

The drought is behind us. While in mid-August 2024, the prefecture of Maine-et- had raised the alert levels for certain water basins in the department due to a deficit of precipitation, this October 9, 2024 puts an end to the latest restrictions related to water use.

Improved hydrological situation

In a press release released that same day, the prefect announced that “the rainfall of recent weeks has helped to strengthen the hydrological situation in the department.” Concretely, the area has been sufficiently watered for the screw to be loosened.

Sobriety practices always recommended

However, this is no reason to relax efforts. This is, in essence, the other message delivered by the prefecture. The latter reminds us that “Each user is always invited to adopt sobriety practices to limit their water consumption. This resource is precious and every gesture counts to contribute to its preservation.”

Preferring a shower to a bath, collecting rainwater…

And to recommend preferring the shower to a bath, to install aerators on the taps, to collect rainwater to water the garden, to mulch the trees and vegetable gardens, to use economical irrigation techniques and opt for crops that consume less water and are more resilient to heat peaks.
