Around 500 people pay tribute to Palestinian and Lebanese victims in Brussels: an emotional moment

From 8:00 p.m., candles lit up the square while the first “Free, free Palestine” rang out. In an atmosphere clearly charged with emotion, the crowd then observed a minute of silence. “Until Palestine is free, we will fight alongside it against the oppressor,” insisted one demonstrator.

A year ago, the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas carried out an unprecedented attack in Israeli territory, leaving some 1,205 dead and 251 hostages.

Survivor of the Nova festival in Israel, Yarin Shriki became European ju-jitsu champion: “There were 8 friends at the party. Four were killed”

Since the Israeli offensive launched in retaliation, entire sectors of the Gaza Strip have been reduced to ruins, almost all of its 2.4 million inhabitants have been displaced and at least 41,909 Palestinians have been killed there, in majority of civilians, according to data from the Hamas government’s Ministry of Health, deemed reliable by the UN.

According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), more than 14,100 Gazan children have lost their lives and at least 10,000 people, “probably under the rubble”, are missing.

The vigil also paid tribute to the Lebanese victims of the Israeli bombings carried out against Hezbollah in Lebanon since September 23, particularly in the Bekaa region and in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

Since October 2023, more than 2,000 people have been killed in Lebanon, including more than a thousand since the intensification of Israeli bombings on September 23, according to the country’s authorities. Around 1.2 million people have been displaced.
