Transhumance of Greater : the sheep arrive in town

The 4th edition of the Little Transhumance of Greater started at Tête d’Or Park. This year, 10 municipalities are on the program for this crossing in the middle of the city. A primarily educational approach initiated by the Urban Sheepfold.

Each year, the association The Urban Sheepfold organizes an urban transhumance which crosses the Lyon metropolis. A unique event that combines tradition, ecology and conviviality. There transhumance is an ancestral act which consists of moving the herds of a pasture to the other. In Lyon, there are dozens of sheep who roam the streets, parks and gardens, accompanied by their shepherds.

The Urban Sheepfoldwhose objective is to encourage meeting between animals and city dwellersoffers us for 4 days to find out more about theurban agriculture and on the professional shepherds who devoted himself to it. 24 sheep roam the city.

As a reminder, the sheep are true natural clippers. They maintain the green spaces in an ecological and economical way. But the urban transhumance Go much further.

Transhumance of Greater Lyon

The sheep journey started in Lyon, Tête d’Or Parkstopped at Cherry Park to the Red Cross Wednesday evening. Then direction Collonges-au-Mont-d’Orbefore reaching Limonest for a final agricultural festival SATURDAY

The journey of the transhumance of Greater Lyon allows Lyonnais to discover emblematic places of the city in a new light. The sheep pass through varied neighborhoods, green parks to animated places.

Of the animations are offered throughout the route: educational workshops for children, farmers markets, tastings of local products
