Friborg wants to redevelop the surroundings of the BCF Arena

The surroundings of the BCF Arena will change. The city of Friborg put under investigation this Friday a project to develop related roads in the Saint-Léonard sector. The project plans a significant transformation of Allée du Cimetière and Chemin Saint-Léonard, the authorities explain in a press release.

Allée du Cimetière will benefit from a raised crossing sidewalk marking the transition with the Morat road, the establishment of a 30 km/h zone and a road narrowing device. Chemin Saint-Léonard — currently partially closed to automobile traffic — will be equipped with retractable bollards and also placed in a 30km/h zone. Only delivery vehicles, soft mobility and TPF reinforcement buses will be able to circulate there. The TPF “Cemetery” bus stops will be brought into compliance with the law on equality for people with disabilities LHand.

Parking spaces removed

These changes will lead to the removal of 26 parking spaces, those located along the football field. Contacted, the city explains to us that “to enable the project to requalify public spaces with the creation of arborization and the compliance of the Cemetery bus stops in Lhand, rights-of-way on the parking lot are necessary”.

The project also includes the planting of a flower meadow and a row of local trees along the cemetery wall. These plant additions aim to create a natural barrier between the cemetery and the sports facilities, while contributing to the fight against heat islands and the promotion of biodiversity.

In total, the work should cost around 2.6 million francs, the city told us. The work credit for this redevelopment will be submitted to the General Council at the beginning of 2025, and the work will begin after obtaining the permit and political approval of the credits.
