UAPED, a resource place in Maine-et-Loire

It was during an exchange with professionals from the Angers University Hospital that he was presented with the functioning of this medical-judicial structure responsible for welcoming child victims, interviewing them and, if necessary, carrying out examinations. forensic. UAPED makes it possible to limit the psychological impact of the legal procedure on children and to optimize the collection of their words. The care of child victims of abuse has always been the subject of particular attention at Angers University Hospital. Since June 2005, the UAPED, the Children in Danger Pediatric Reception Unit (formerly PAPED) – welcomes, in a single location and upon judicial requisition, child victims of violence for a filmed hearing and, if necessary, a medico-legal examination . CHU caregivers have a role of social and psychological support (the “care” dimension) while investigators and forensic doctors are in charge of finding evidence (the “judicial” dimension). Trauma suffered in childhood can have significant repercussions on their emotional, psychological and social future. Professionals are unanimous in considering that such a medico-judicial structure in a pediatric hospital environment makes it possible to limit the psychological consequences of the legal procedure for children and to optimize the collection of their words. The UAPED of the Angers University Hospital is a place of recourse for the Eastern hemiregion where miners from Maine-et-Loire, and Mayenne are welcomed. Since its opening in 2005, more than 7,000 children have been welcomed, listened to and cared for.
