Thunderbolt in Senegal, Aliou Cissé fired?

Huge announcement in sight in Senegal! Aliou Cissé, coach of the Senegal national team, will probably not be extended. According to the Senegalese media Sud Quotidien, his contract, supposed to last until 2026 to cover CAN 2025, was blocked by the Minister of Sports, despite the support of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF). This veto comes after disappointing performances, notably during the CAN 2025 qualifiers against Burkina Faso (1-1) and Burundi (0-1).

Cissé replaced even before the October matches?

Criticism has been piling up against Cissé since his elimination in the round of 16 of CAN 2023, with criticisms of his stereotypical tactical choices and his lack of integration of young players. Despite some efforts to renew the team with young talents like Lamine Camara and Mikayil Faye, the results do not follow. Cissé, in office since 2015 and winner of CAN 2021, seems to have lost his immunity. The FSF supports him, but his contract was not validated by the Executive and expired in August. If the situation is confirmed, Cissé will be replaced before the double confrontation with Malawi in October, his deputy Pape Bouna Thiaw being tipped for the interim role.

To summarize

Big surprise on the side of Senegal where Aliou Cissé, the coach of the Lions of Téranga, could be dismissed from his post very quickly! In fact, his extension was not approved and Cissé would actually find himself without a contract.
