Born and raised in Rochester, New York, Cierra Dillard was notified this Friday of her Senegalese naturalization.

It’s official, Cierra Janay Dillard, of her real name, is selectable with the Lionesses and will potentially be able to play in the AfroBasket Women 2023 (July 26 – August 6 in Kigali, Rwanda) under the Senegalese banner. Born in the United States and resident of the Alexandria Sporting Club, the 27-year-old player has was notified this Friday of his French naturalization.

“The Senegalese Basketball Federation informs that, by Decree number 2023-1297 of July 7, 2023, the President of the Republic, His Excellency, Mr. Macky Sall granted Senegalese nationality to Miss Cierra Janay Dillard, informs the FSBB in a press release sent to Wiwsport. This naturalization now allows her to play for the national women’s basketball team. »

“I learn from them (her teammates) because I know they have achieved a lot of good things with this selection. I have a lot to learn from their experiences and their advice not only for the competition but also for my career. It is a privilege and an honor for me to learnand next to them », recently affirmed the brand new Lioness. Cierra Dillard now hopes to make the 12-player roster for AfroBasket.
