An earthquake was recorded shortly after 6:30 p.m. in western France, with an estimated epicenter between La Rochelle and Niort, this Friday, June 16. The tremors were felt as far as Tours, but also in Bordeaux, Poitiers and Nantes.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 hit western France at 6:38 p.m. on Friday June 16. According to the French Central Seismological Bureau, the epicenter would be located on the border of Charente and Deux-Sèvres, halfway between La Rochelle and Niort.
The tremors could be felt as far as Tours, in Indre-et-Loire. On Twitter, many Tourangeaux explain that they felt “a mini earthquake“for some. When another claims to have”thought that the neighbors were still doing work my sofa was moving so much“.
Marine Rondonnier, journalist for France 3 in Tours, also explains that she felt a vibration. But “not enough to move a frame on the walls“.
According to the firefighters, no damage has so far been observed in Indre-et-Loire, despite a large number of worried calls. The emergency services ask not to overload the lines.
The earthquake could also be felt in Bordeaux, Poitiers, Limoges, Nantes and even Angers.
