At the start of 2025, road safety published its accident report for the year 2024. In Occitania, the accident rate has increased by almost 6% in one year (i.e. 3,786 in 2024 compared to 3,572 in 2023). What about Haute-Garonne?
One death per week on average
The last 12 months, 52 people died on the roads of Haute-Garonne, the equivalent ofone death per week. A figure which has been constantly increasing for several years (two more people than in 2023 and four more than in 2022).
THE vulnerable users represent 65% of people killed in 2024. People on motorized two-wheelers alone represent 35% of those who died on the roads in 2024, a figure up compared to 2023. In total, 10 of the 52 people killed were pedestrians.
Of the 52 people deplored in 2024, the majority are men (44).
Number of injured on the rise
In total, the prefecture is responsible 559 bodily accidents in 2024. A figure again showing a slight increase (+ 4.5%) compared to the previous year.
-The number of injured following these accidents also increased, from 655 to 704. Among them, the number of people hospitalized also increased.
Taking into account only the month of December 2024, this figure soared, going from 16 hospitalizations to 29, i.e. almost one a day.
Towards a reduction in the number of deaths in 2025?
Even if the number of injured and people hospitalized increases, it should be noted thatno accident was fatal on the roads of Haute-Garonne during the month of December 2024. Conversely, in December 2023, three people lost their lives.
To end on a more positive note, there was no no deaths among users of EDP machines (scooters, scooters or even hoverboards) with motors in Haute-Garonne throughout the year 2024.
