Since the start of 2025, the roads of Maine-et-Loire have been the scene of four fatal accidents. Many of these tragedies are linked to risky behavior, such as excessive speed, alcohol or drug use. Faced with this worrying situation, the police have stepped up road checks in the department.
Two targeted operations throughout the weekend
According to Ouest-France, a vast system was deployed on Friday January 24 and Saturday January 25, mobilizing 30 gendarmes at several strategic points in Maine-et-Loire. These checks made it possible to target serious offenses related to speed, alcohol and drugs.
-The first operation took place Friday afternoon, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and focused on speeding. At the end of this intervention, 24 violations for excessive speed were noted, including several motorists traveling at more than 40 km/h above the authorized limit. The gendarmes carried out an administrative immobilization of the vehicle and three license retentions.
During the night from Saturday to Sunday, a second series of checks took place between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m., spread over five points in the department. These checks mainly targeted blood alcohol and drug use. Results: 12 offenses for driving while intoxicated and 3 for driving under the influence of drugs. In addition, 27 other traffic violations were noted.
