The story of this astonishing project begins in the summer of 2023: the scout of the future “Tell me just that you love me”, responsible for finding filming locations, meets by chance Matthieu Bobin and his wife Nathalie in their art gallery, the Funambules. During the discussion, the couple offered to show him around their house, which would ultimately be chosen to shoot several scenes. “I quickly realized that something quite incredible was happening, and I wanted to make the most of it,” explains the painter. So I asked if I could come on set as a designer. » Although initially taken aback by this unusual proposal, Anne Le Ny accepted, as did the production and the actors.

“The paintings were already there, all we had to do was open our eyes”

For five weeks, Matthieu Bobin followed the film crews throughout Morbihan, with his camera and his sketchbook. Passionate about the work of cinematographer Laurent Dailland, he observes carefully: “the paintings were already there, all we had to do was open our eyes. » In addition to the actors in action, he does not hesitate to immortalize behind the scenes of the film. However, its objective is not to make a making-of. “I am not recounting the filming, I simply captured certain moments on the canvases” indicates Matthieu Bobin. After filming, he spent many weeks in his studio painting. Acrylic on paper, on wood, ink, pencil and even charcoal, several techniques are used, and around a hundred paintings are born from this project, to which are added the sketches captured from life.

All the works will be exhibited in a Parisian art gallery in a few weeks. At the same time, with his wife, he decided to bring them together in a book, which they self-published through their art gallery. The 178-page work will be presented during the film premiere on January 27, then will be on sale in two bookstores: at Cheminant and at Jardin des Bulles.

The film, for its part, will be released on February 19: Matthieu Bobin would even have an extra role, for a few seconds.
