(Ottawa) Liberal Party leadership candidate Mark Carney received two more endorsements from cabinet on Saturday.

National Defense Minister Bill Blair supported Mr. Carney in a statement on X, while Nate Erskine-Smith hosted an event for the former Bank of Canada governor in his Toronto riding.

MP Adam van Koeverden also supported Mr. Carney on Saturday, after the two filmed a promotional video together on the Rideau Canal earlier in the week.

At the event in Toronto, Mr. Carney assured his supporters that he would run as an MP in the next election, regardless of the outcome of the leadership race.

The Liberals will choose a new leader to replace Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on March 9.

Seven candidates in total submitted nomination materials and the $50,000 deposit required for registration last week to apply to appear on the ballot. They include Ministers Karina Gould and Chrystia Freeland, MPs Jaime Battiste and Chandra Arya as well as former MPs Ruby Dhalla and Frank Baylis, in addition to Mr Carney.
