The polisario threaten Mauritania In a war if it opens a new border post with Morocco and accepts the commissioning of a new route connecting the city ofEs-Smara on the Mauritanian border.
These threats were made during a recent meeting of the Polisario management by Bean Mustapha Sayedthe brother of the founder of the separatist front.
Member of management (he is the number two after Brahim Ghali), Bachir Mustapha Sayed said that with this new road, “the borders of the Sahrawis will then be the borders of Morocco […] This implies Mauritania in a war “. Declarations and threats relayed by the social networks of the separatists.
According to the Spanish newspaper The reasonthis is not the first time that the Polisario has teaches threats against Mauritania. Brahim Ghaliduring a meeting held in December 2019 in Tifariti with Mauritanian parties, had told its hosts that their country “would be the first state affected by any tension between Morocco and the Polisario due to the length of its borders with the Sahara”.
The Polisario, according to the words of Bachir Mustapha Sayed, is currently in an “extremely difficult situation”. We can see there an allusion to the series of declarations of support for the territorial integrity of Morocco on the part of several African countries, but also European and Latin American.
Except that the recent rapprochement between Morocco and Mauritania seems particularly difficult to digest for separatists, especially since this rapprochement has manifested itself several times in almost a month.
First there was the meeting between King Mohammed VI and President Ould El Ghazouani. The latter had claimed that his country joined at the same time theRoyal Initiative for the Atlantic and the project of Gazuc Nigeria-Maroc.
-Thereafter, there was an intense exchange of visits between the two countries. Icing on the cake, the two neighboring countries have just signed a memorandum for a electrical interconnection Between Morocco and Mauritania.
The future new route between the two countries will link ES-SMARA to the Mauritanian border. The site was launched in February 2024 over 53 kilometers, and the kingdom puts the final touch. This new road section will be secured by the Royal Armed Forces.
