The Rally of Democrats, Progressives and Independents (RDPI) group only has 19 elected officials and related members in the Senate. After Olivier Bitz (Orne) and Ludovic Haye (Haut-Rhin) at the end of 2024, the senator from Mayotte Saïd Omar Oili announced, Friday January 24, Monde, that he was leaving his formation, ranked in the majority, in the center. The reason, according to him: “When I asked for a commission of inquiry into the management of Cyclone Chido [qui a durement frappé Mayotte le 14 décembre 2024]which the Prime Minister himself described as “the greatest catastrophe for since the Second World War”, I was told no, because the government should not be blamed. »

The other groups in the Senate have exhausted their drawing rights, and only the RDPI could, in fact, launch such an investigation. But the format of a commission of inquiry is, obviously, “unusual” for a majority group – hear “not at all correct” vis-à-vis the executive – we recognize within the RDPI, especially since another of its senators from Mayotte, Thani Mohamed-Soilihi, became Minister Delegate for the Francophonie.
