A major cultural project could see the light of day in Rougemont. Supported by a private investor, he plans a concert hall and a museum. A task force of the cantons of Vaud and Bern was created, GSTAAD feeding a similar intention.

“The project was launched following a request from the municipal and cantonal authorities who wanted to combat the desertification of the Pays d’Enhaut,” said Keystone-Ats Elsener, director of the Hotel-Restorant Valrose in Rougemont and project manager. He returned to information from the “Anzeiger von Saanen”, taken up by other media.

The municipality approached Yann Guyonvarc’h, businessman and owner of the Valrose in Rougemont. Entrepreneur passionate about new technologies, “this Franco-Swiss is in love with the region. A lover of art and music, he wishes to help this project to be carried out,” slips Mr. Elsener.

Tunnel it’s soutrain

In detail, the project provides for an ambitious underground construction, on the plot between the cantonal road and the parking lot of the Videmanette, on an area of around 26,000 m2. Advantage, especially in winter, a tunnel should connect the cultural center directly to the Bernese Montreux-Oberland station (MOB).

The Philharmonic Salle could accommodate between 1,200 and 1,500 spectators. As for the museum, it would host collections of impressionist works. “For the Pays-d’Enhaut, this institution could become the counterpart of the Giannada Foundation in Martigny,” illustrates Mr. Elsener.

Other infrastructure could follow, such as a five -star hotel or accommodation for around 200 new employees. In an amount estimated at around 100 million, the project would be fully funded privately.

Vaud or Bern

The first plans were made and presented to the parties. “The echoes are very positive whether in the town, the canton or the mob,” says the project manager. “But everything is still open,” he said. Among the difficulties, the manager mentioned the dezoning of the land which is on agricultural land.

Another obstacle, a similar project led by the GSTAAAD HALL GSTAAD Foundation Council some eight kilometers away. It provides for a new concert hall with 1200 seats to replace the current marquee with 1,800 seats. At this stage, “we are at the same point,” said Elsener. “None of the two projects received authorization from his respective canton”.

Asked about competition between the two proposals, Ernes Elsener prefers to evoke “an alternative”. According to him, “it is better to have two projects than none. The two cantons concerned have created a Task Force. We are waiting for their response”.
