The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) officially launched two 400 kV electrical lines to connect the El Ouali substation in the Fez region to the future Midelt solar power plant.
This is an essential step in Morocco’s drive to strengthen its energy infrastructure and transition to renewable energy sources.
“These lines, with a total length of 270 kilometers, reflect our commitment to ensuring a robust and efficient electricity network,” ONEE announced in its press release.
With an investment of more than 550 million dirhams ($54 million), the project represents a positive step in Morocco’s growing interest in the integration of renewable energy and the development of a modern electricity grid.
The newly operational lines will transport energy from the Midelt solar power plant, which is expected to play a major role in increasing the share of clean energy in Morocco’s electricity mix.
“This project shows the importance of aligning our infrastructure with the country’s energy transition objectives,” explains ONEE.
In addition to enabling the integration of renewable energies, the project strengthens the national high voltage network to ensure reliable and sustainable transmission of electricity.
“We are determined to achieve Morocco’s strategic objectives in terms of energy and the environment while providing a public electricity service that remains reliable and forward-looking,” said ONEE.
The launch of these 400 kV lines represents an important milestone for Morocco’s booming energy sector and demonstrates the country’s commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.
Morocco’s goal is to produce 52% of its energy from clean renewable sources by 2030.
