The Spanish shipping company Balearia has announced the launch of a fully electric maritime line linking Tarifa to Tangier Ville. This innovative project aims to electrify port infrastructure on both shores of the Strait of Gibraltar and provide a fast and environmentally friendly crossing.
Presented during the 45th Madrid International Tourism Fair, this 100% green maritime corridor is based on two electric ferries designed specifically for this connection. It is part of Balearia’s strategy aimed at carbon neutrality by 2050, making this initiative a global benchmark in terms of innovation and modernization of maritime transport.
The Moroccan ambassador to Spain, Karima Benyaich, welcomed an “avant-garde” project which will strengthen connections between the two countries and their cooperation within the framework of the 2030 World Cup. For his part, the Secretary of State Spanish Minister of Transport, José Antonio Santano Clavero, stressed that this initiative embodies the values uniting the two nations.
With this first sustainable maritime line, the Moroccan-Spanish partnership takes a new step, illustrating their common commitment to the ecological transition and the strengthening of trade between the two shores of the strait.
