Leïla Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development and Mohamed Ould Mohamed Melaïnine Ould Khaled, Minister of Oil and Energy of Mauritania, signed, Thursday January 23 in Rabat, a memorandum of understanding intended to strengthen the partnership between the two countries in the fields of electricity and renewable energies, as announced by Barlamane.com.

This working visit by the Mauritanian minister is part of an ongoing configuration of consultation and coordination between Rabat and Nouakchott in accordance with the guidelines of King Mohammed VI and President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, intended to deepen bilateral relations and respond to the ambitions shared interests of the two nations.

The memorandum of understanding constitutes a decisive step forward to accelerate cooperation in strategic sectors. It notably provides for rural electrification projects, the development of clean energy initiatives and the harmonization of electrical standards between the two countries.

The partnership also includes the exchange of expertise, technologies and best practices in network management and electrical security, as well as the strengthening of human skills through joint training programs. This cooperation intends to contribute to energy security, to diversify energy sources and to study the realization of an electrical interconnection project intended to stabilize the networks and improve supply.

The two ministers also discussed major strategic projects such as the gas pipeline linking Morocco to Nigeria and projects linked to new energies, in particular green hydrogen. They stressed that relations between Morocco and Mauritania are based on a common vision oriented towards sustainable development and reflect the desire of the two countries to strengthen the role of Africa as a continent with vast potential for growth and prosperity.

This meeting brought together, on the Moroccan side, the director general of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water, the president and director general of the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy, the secretary general of the sector of the energy transition and that of sustainable development. On the Mauritanian side, Mohamed Mokhtar Ahmed Mouloud, director general of electricity and renewable energies, Khourimbany El Habib, project manager for the hydrogen sector, and Ahmed Gal Mouhamed, advisor to the minister in charge of cooperation, were present. and communication.
