The Toulouse Court of Appeal has delivered its deliberations on the appeal trial of the directors of Emmaüs Tarn-et-Garonne. Former director Christian Calmejane and his wife were acquitted of breach of trust but sentenced to six months in prison and a fine of 3,000 euros for money laundering. The deputy director and his wife were cleared of the entire crime.
Relaxations on one side, condemnations on the other. The Toulouse Court of Appeal has delivered its deliberations in the case of alleged misappropriation of funds to the detriment of Emmaüs Tarn-et-Garonne. The correctional appeals chamber of the Toulouse court had in fact set January 23, 2025 as the date for rendering its decision against Christian Calmejane, former director of the institution, his deputy Hrachya Hayrapetyan and their respective wives.

The first named and his partner were acquitted of breach of trust but convicted, on the other hand, of laundering tax fraud following the appeal hearing which took place on November 14, 2024.
The deputy and his wife released
They both received a six-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of 3,000 euros. On the other hand, Mr. and Mrs. Hayrapetian were acquitted of charges of preventing breach of trust, laundering tax fraud and concealed work.

“My client is relieved by this decision which restores his dignity and his truth,” reacted soberly Me Amélie Villageon, lawyer for Hrachya Hayrapetyan. On the other hand, Me Amélie Piazzon, lawyer for Christian Calmejane's wife, did not wish to comment. This decision is far removed from the requisitions of General Counsel Lisa Bergereau. The latter had requested a one-year suspended prison sentence against the former leaders and six months suspended prison sentence for the wives of the two men.
The quartet was acquitted at first instance
