SAccording to the Moroccan Association for Assistance to Migrants in Difficult Situations (AMSV), which is closely following this issue, this new wave of releases mainly concerns young people from several Moroccan cities, including Fez, Oujda, Taza, Taounate, Guercif, Rabat, and other regions such as Midelt, Beni Mellal and Tetouan.
Among them, some spent more than five months in administrative detention, in conditions often criticized by human rights organizations.
This operation comes less than a week after the surrender, by the Algerian authorities, of 36 other young Moroccans via the same border post. The majority of these people are considered by Algeria as “candidates for irregular migration”.
-The AMSV recalled that these repatriation operations are often hampered by technical and administrative obstacles. The association is actively working to resolve these issues, including raising the issue at international forums.
Recently, she participated in the International Conference on Enforced Disappearances, held in Geneva on January 15 and 16, to draw attention to the fate of young Moroccans detained abroad.
