Charente-Maritime. Gérard Blanchard elected president of the University of La Rochelle

This Monday, January 20, 2025, the board of directors of the University of La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime) voted to elect its president. With 28 votes in favorone vote against and four blank ballots, it is Gerard Blanchard who won that election and is now the president of the university.

It is a return to the position of president of the University for this expert in marine ecology who had already held this position between 2008 and 2016. Since 2016, Gérard Blanchard was vice-president of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region in charge of Higher Education, Research and Technology Transfer. He was also vice-president of the La Rochelle urban community and municipal councilor in La Rochelle. He resigned last December from his regional and community functions.

The rest of the team will be elected on January 27

It now remains to elect the rest of the members of the team, including the vice-presidents. This election will take place on Monday, January 27.

The directors of the “Pôle Licenses Collegium” will also be elected on this occasion.

During his mandate, Gérard Blanchard wishes to “continue the development of the establishment while improving working conditions. » He also wishes to “strengthen partnerships with socio-economic actors and local authorities”.
