These changes, announced at the beginning of December, came into force on Tuesday.

Thus, from now on, travelers who pay the revised base fare will be allocated a seat free of charge at check-in, but will have to pay a fee if they wish to change it.

The fees are determined based on the new place chosen during the modification.

Adjustments already in effect

Other changes to certain Air Canada fares announced at the beginning of December have already been in effect since January 3.

Travelers who purchased a base fare ticket now have to pay for carry-on baggage on routes within North America and to sun destinations.

Customers can still bring a small personal item on board, but will need to check larger luggage, such as a rolling suitcase, large backpacks or cylindrical sports bags, for a fee ranging from $35 to $50.

People who present themselves at the boarding gate with this now prohibited type of carry-on baggage “will be charged a fee of $65 per item for their check-in”.

The checked baggage allowance for travelers who have opted for the economy class comfort fare for destinations around the world has also been increased.

These customers are now allowed two checked bags.
