As registration opens on Wednesday for the fall 2025 academic year, young and old wishing to attend the Carleton-sur-Mer college campus can now opt for a brand new Adventure-Studies option.
The idea of enriching the college offering by promoting access to the playground that is Baie-des-Chaleurs has been in the cards of the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles for several years. Although several options were evaluated in this regard, it was that of a profile offered to students in the pre-university Arts, Letters and Communication, Natural Sciences and Human Sciences programs that was chosen.

Twelve places will be available from the fall session. This course will allow registered people to discover and practice, thanks to different local partners, an outdoor activity every week. Various disciplines, including sailing, climbing, backcountry skiing, sea kayaking and all-season camping are already on the program.
We continue to develop partnerships. There is scuba diving that could be there
notes the director of the Carleton-sur-Mer campus, Geneviève Bibeau.
Two teachers from Baie-des-Chaleurs laid the foundations for this new local proposal. They were supported in this work by members of the team from the Gaspé campus, where the Adventure Tourism Techniques program is offered.

In an environment like Baie-des-Chaleurs, with the sea, the mountains and partners, there is a way to have a range of interesting activities to add to your school career.
adds the manager. Ms. Bibeau also believes that this is a way to improve the student experience
.
We want to be even more attractive to the Carleton-sur-Mer campus with this option which is unique in Quebec.

For Geneviève Bibeau, the new option will constitute a added value
which will allow you to discover Baie-des-Chaleurs. We hope that there will be a good distribution between admissions from our region and from outside. But, yes, why not? If it can increase the number of admissions to campus, we will be very happy!
A similar offer is already offered in Gaspé where 18 places are filled each year. Admission applications for the first round for the fall college start are in progress until 1is mars.
Registrations for residences from February 3
People interested in being accommodated in one of the units that should be available in the new Carleton-sur-Mer student residence from the fall will also be able to submit a request online as of February 3.
We are ready. We are waiting for reservation requests.
The monthly rent was calculated at $695. For Ms. Bibeau, this amount is one just
which will allow the college establishment to have a balanced budget
.
This is an amount that we consider reasonable taking into account all the services that are offered in the rent: electricity, heating, air conditioning. These are fully furnished apartments, too, and high-speed Internet is included
she explains.

The construction project, estimated at $7.7 million, launched last fall, is also progressing smoothly. We are on budget and on schedule
adds the campus director, who specifies that delivery of the building is still expected by mid-July in preparation for the fall return to school.
The Baie-des-Chaleurs college campus believes that it is difficult to accurately predict the enthusiasm that these new student residences will generate, but believes that a need is definitely present locally.
Five of the planned units will be reserved for students at the L’Envol professional training center in Carleton-sur-Mer.
