Part of the former Super U of Villefranche-de-Lauragais, now owned by the town hall, will once again welcome the public within a few months. Since October, work has been launched in a local de 400 m2 located at the rear of the building and formerly used by the large retail chain to store merchandise. Objective of this project: to provide one of the town's associations with a new playground.

In a few weeks, the place will indeed welcome the indoor bowling alley of the pétanque club. “We hope that it can be made available to the association by the end of February”, specify Julien Sidobre et Jean-Jacques Ramadetwo of the elected officials who are following this issue.

A project entrusted to the technical center

Almost all of the work was entrusted to six municipal employees. “We are lucky to have agents who have skills in construction and who work really well. They are the ones who have already renovated the old treasury so that the municipal police can be installed there. As soon as they were finished there, we brought them here. But they were not able to work there permanently, because they are versatile and have other missions. And they had a lot of work over the holiday period with setting up the equipment for the festivities. This is the reason why the work was a little late », explains Jean-Jacques Ramade.

By carrying out this project under management rather than calling on companies, the community is thus ensuring an investment at a lower cost. “ This is a project which was estimated at around €30,000. We have agents who have different skills in the team: carpenter, mason, painter, electrician… At the end of the project, we will be at 400 hours of work », specifies Patrice Scapinthe head of the technical center.

What did the work consist of?

The project took place in several stages. “We already had to empty the premises because we stored a lot of things there. Then we made the openings. We isolated this part from the rest of the building so that there were no more connections between the two. Then we created a corner for the toilets and put in place suitable lighting,” explains Julien Sidobre, who specifies that the project was set up in conjunction with the pétanque club and validated by it. “We wanted to see with them how optimize space as best as possible. In total, they will have between eight and ten tracks to play “, he continues.

At the back of the room, the old cold room has been dismantled. It can thus serve as a storage location for the club which will be in charge of completing the development of the bowling alley. “They are the ones who will install gravel on the ground and protections to stop the balls and protect the land base,” specifies the elected official.

They will be able to leave Bor Street

Strong of 82 licensees and very good results obtained in recent years, the Joyful pétanque villefranchoise will therefore have a new bowling alley in a few weeks. The club will thus be able to leave the makeshift premises in which it has been installed near Ciné Bor for around ten years now.

A place that pétanque players had taken over after the demolition, in 2013, of the bowling alley which had been set up in the former gymnasium of the Jules-Ferry college.
